Sam Messer
Sam received a BA (Hons) in Music (Composition) and Engish Literature from Canterbury Christ Church University in 2010, studying with Derek Hyde and Professor Roderick Watkins and a Masters in Music (Composition) in 2011.
Sam’s work has been performed by a range of performers and ensembles including Ensemble KLANG, Adelaide’s Soundstream New Music Collective, London New Wind Festival Ensemble, and the Leon Quartet. Sam was selected as a finalist for the ‘Forme Uniche Della Continuita Nello Spazio’ workshop series, and in November 2012 attended workshops led by Stephen Whittington, Carlo Forlivesi and Soundstream New Music Collective at the Elder Conservatorium of Music, Adelaide, a trip funded by PRS for Music and the Bliss Trust.
2012 also saw the premiere of two new chamber works: duo music (for violin and ‘cello) & two (for oboe and piano), as well as Asyndesis, a work for orchestra. In October 2012 his sound installation, talk, was installed at Canterbury’s Heritage Museum as part of the Canterbury Festival’s ‘Wise Words’ project
